Makin’ Candles!

Makin’ Candles!

Before Charlotte came out (for Labor Day weekend) I wanted to find something for us to do so she wasn’t in her room rotting like a teenager this visit. I found a Candle Making Class up the road a bit, so I reserved 4 spots and away we went.

We met Indy there (he was “gaming” when we left), took our instruction from the kind lady working there, then we went nuts! While we waited for Indy, I walked around and snapped images.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of our candles when they were done. That isn’t a big deal because none of them turned out like we expected (Charlotte’s is probably the closest to what she wanted). Indy was hoping his would show a funnel style as it burned down, but it all looks like of like a mashup of wax and a few colors. Mine was supposed to be a checkerboard along the sides with a Utah wax outline on the front. It looks a lot like a cream-colored candle with chunks of colored wax mixed in. It was fun that the 2nd layer I built was red wax, so as soon as it burned for a minute, the puddle was red. Jame wanted to be able to see the different colors circle around the candle like a circular staircase. Charlotte chose to build her candle with the parts and pieces sticking out the top. Her’s looks more like she wanted than ours did.

I think making candles would be a fun date idea. It isn’t cheap, but it isn’t much more expensive than going to a movie with all the popcorn, soda, and candy. I think I will look for another crafty thing for us to do on her next visit (after Jade’s wedding).
