After yesterday’s walk with Jamie, I decided to do another one today in the rain. I went about 3 miles all told, and took a couple hundred images. So many of them are enjoyable for me, but I’ll try to keep it in sets for the site.
I also went back and found my post from when I originally walked this path and took images. Back then it was with my Pentax K100D Super. I still have that little camera but it is very fussy about lenses, so it is mostly for looks now. That original post was from when I was working through a lot of things. The feel of the images are similar, but my new camera allows me to crop more, and has better light sensitivity. That original post is still on here, it’s called “Everything Looks Shinny in the Rain“. The images are darker, but that was a result of a weird monitor on my laptop, not an artistic choice. Today’s images were more or less left as they came out of the camera. I cropped a few to get closer (ducks, and water droplets). I try to get it right in camera, then crack open DarkTable to adjust something that the camera can’t capture.
Alright first things first, it seems I have found myself in the habit of taking pictures of my car. Here you go, the car (spilled an entire 20oz coffee on the passenger seat Wednesday, so it smells like coffee inside).

Then, when I was editing and turning these images in to jpegs for the internet, I noticed I had a few themes. This theme is the trails and how they twist and the leading lines they have. Some are interesting, some are “blagh”. Here they are together (not in order of travel – in order of composition I guess).

I also saw that I liked taking pictures into and under bridges on this walk. Something too easy about taking a photograph of something that makes you see the focal point. Here the bridges and such.

I also played with raindrops and dripping water. On the Instagrams I saw a woman talking about her boyfriend’s photography he did for her and how he captured her portraits in large water droplets. I tried this with some success. The droplets were starting to freeze so they weren’t as clear as they would have been on a warmer day. I think some of these would make good wallpapers for your computer.

On the way back, this couple were walking along and passed my just outside the tunnel. I tried to snap a few pictures, none turned out well, but these two are “fine”. I like the tall (portrait one) because of how the shadows reflect the same pattern as the umbrella.

I noticed a bunch of similarly dark trees, and curved twisted trees (always been a favorite of mine). I guess it used to help me cope with life’s difficulties and how they can bend you, if you don’t let it break you.

I love seeing graffiti as well. I don’t research the meanings or what the person was trying to say, but the colors and style are always a treat to photograph. Under the train bridge, the contrast between bright colors, and old steel bridge were a pleasure to try and capture.

There were a LOT of ducks today as well. And geese, but they weren’t patient enough for me to shoot (with my camera). I needed a bigger lens, but this little duck couple let me get close enough to at least show they are ducks. The tree is just about ready to fall down thanks to mister Beaver. I’d love to see one of them chompin’ on a tree so I could get their picture.

And that’s about it for today. I really enjoy getting out and clicking the shutter. Sometimes I capture a “banger”, but most of the time I’m just enjoying the process.
Happy New Year, and I hope you get the year you deserve.

P.S. In 2021, I got a really nice image of a raindrop splash. Missed them all this time, but this one was the closest I could capture. I’m blaming the lens, but it’s probably the photographer.
