To celebrate the U.S. Army’s birthday, the Idaho State Veteran’s Home threw a car show for the residents. I think those of us that entered our vehicles had as nice a time as the residence. My uncle Rich (MSgt; U.S. Air Force retired) lives there, so we had a double reason to put the Comet into the show. My sister (Mendee) also put her Mustang in the show, so of course we had her park next to me (Her mustang has one of the best sounding exhaust on a 4.6L V8).

I have no idea how I made it 23 years in the military, because the more I interact with my retired counterparts, the less I find it comfortable to be around them. <The rest of the paragraph has been redacted to keep respect where it is earned, and dignity where it is appropriate> and that is why I personally feel some retired military are like they are.
The Boy Scouts of America did our flag ceremonies today, and I give them a heart felt thank you for their respect and perseverance to get through the ceremonies. They were learning how to do the proceedings, and had a few moments of confusion, but they never broke their respectful handling of my nation’s flag, and once their mission was accomplished. Good job guys, and thank you.

After the national anthem and raising of the flag were finished up, it was time to retire some old flags that have served their time. This was also done respectfully, and I think it was a great learning experience for the entire troop (and yes, one of them got a little hot while draping the flag over the flames 😉 ).

Once the flag had been raised, and respectfully retired, it was time to get the car show going, grab some grub, and see who’s car got the rewards.

Besides me and Mendee’s cars, my uncle Tim brought his trailer and chevy out for everyone to see (inside and out). Beautiful setup (I’m not a chevy guy, but I think these are popular).

The day went by quickly, and I think everyone had a really good time. I know my uncle Rich was happy to get out and see family, shinny cars, and feel some sun on his face. They take good care of the folks here, and as a VA patient myself, I hope our current administration’s cuts do not hurt the available services any more than they already have.

It was a lot of fun to drive the Comet up here to Pocatello, and really fulfilling to be part of this display of cars for the veterans in this facility.
Headed home tomorrow. Going to get Charlotte off to the airport, the Comet back into storage, get the Crown Vic back out, and get some quiet time in-front of the air conditioner vent.
