The last couple nights Charlotte and me have tried to get up into the mountains above the city for a night hike. Last night we finally got enough stars to align to go hike. The stars really did NOT want to align for us though. Tuesday night I couldn’t find a 2nd headlamp, and last night I kept forgetting stuff in the house, got to the car and the battery was dead, then I grabbed my spare key to Jamie’s car and locked the door behind me, then when we got to the mountain I realized my hiking poles were in the trunk of my now dead car, and finally, after about a mile up the trail Charlotte found a snake!

After that excitement, we found our way up to the park bench on a small ledge (wouldn’t call it a cliff). The bugs were attacking her in mass, so we didn’t spend a lot of time taking pictures, and the remote for my camera wasn’t happy. Needless to say, the pictures are “fine” but nothing I am happy with.

This hike used to be my relaxing, mind clearing, leisurely hike. Tonight, I felt in my soul that I was many years older than I already am. Here is a link to All Trails, and the details of this hike. Looking over my hikes, it has been over a year since I went on a real, normal hike like this. I need to do this more; obviously.
I have done this hike with Dayton, and with Indy. It was nice to finally drag my third kid up there and show her some of the stuff I enjoy (and what I did to get through some of the most difficult times in my life).
Of course we had to try and get a daddy daughter selfie, but again, the bugs were eating her alive, but here they are.

Once we got moving down the mountain, I didn’t stop to take anymore images. Her legs were getting itchy from the hike, branches on the side of the trail, and fresh blood flow to her legs (she has been basically rotting down in her room the last couple weeks).
I really enjoyed our hike last night. She told me about one of the projects she did at school last year. I think it was about a large constellation that the Greeks split up due to how large it was. She told me about how it was split into ships, and they were searching for Mars. I will ask her more about it in the next day or two so I can clear it up in this post. Maybe, I will just have her write it on here, in her own words, yeah, I think I will try to do that.
I love spending time with my kids, and when I get to do something individually with them that is also something they can talk about together, that will hopefully be something they can think back on fondly for years to come.
