Waterfall Canyon Loop

This route is one I’ve been doing since I got into hiking back in late 2020 early 2021. I didn’t realize it had been updated in AllTrails until I started looking at it today. The trail is also being groomed more, that makes it a little smoother to hike, but makes it feel less like a hike, and more like a neighborhood trail. Here’s the AllTrails link for today’s hike.

This hike is one I’ve taken my three kids, on, usually at night, so today was kind of strange since the daytime light was showing me places that feel cozy at night, and wide open during the day. The first mile or so is pretty hard (if you go anti-clockwise). After that, it really isn’t difficult at all. Here are a few images from the beginning. I used the 40mm for a few, then chucked it in my bag and put the 85mm back on. I love the compression that the 85 gives me.

Here is the same image taken at 40mm, then 85mm. Love me some 85mm compression.

Again, today’s trail wasn’t very photogenic, I guess. I enjoy the images, but they’re not computer wallpaper images, but I like seeing the trails, and the curves, and the elevation changes. Here are a few from the first part, and how steep it is. The couple in the first of these 6 images, were up top when I got there, so I snapped them.

Then I paused to take more images of the path, and how it curves along the Wasatch front.

This couple came from further down the trail than I started and went back down after I stole their image. I like the compression of the 85 when doing portraits. too. She looks like she was chilly willy, but it wasn’t too bad (mid 40s in the parking lot – ~35 up on the mountain).

On the way down the loop, it started to get dark fast. I hustled, and just missed needing a headlamp (I’ll pack one next time). It was darker than these images look (The city lights were a lot brighter than in the images).

And finally all done. This picture of me was about half way, and the parking lot shows my trusty Crown Vic waiting patiently (dark car left, under the edge of the tree). Selfie of me, because, I guess I need to see what I looked like?

That’s it kids. Tomorrow’s weather isn’t looking nice after 11am. I’d love to get out one more time before it all goes to shit, but 11am is my early morning, so we’ll see. Maybe I can talk Jamie into getting out there and muckin’ it up in the dirt and rocks with me.
