Weber County Fair & Stuff

Two girls and two cheep in a cage.

What can I say? It was a fair, I got to spend time with Charlotte. Jamie showed up after her Palates class, and we wondered around, had some overpriced “decent” food, and people watched for a while. I took a few images but like most the last few months, they’re uninspired and bland to me. I don’t know what’s going on, but I have NOT had the juice to experiment and play with photography like I do normally. Self confidence, frustration, or just boredom? I don’t know, but it’s bothersome.

This Henna artist absconded with my funds so Charlotte could have a woman doodle on her hand while her husband possessively kept me away from her (joking, I was never closer than ten feet but WOW he was persistently possessive.) While I was sitting in the second customer chair, he tapped my shoulder, moved the chair behind Charlotte so I couldn’t see her working on Charlotte’s hand and left for his other booth. So I moved it to the other side of Charlotte by the edge of the booth, and he came back to stand between me and his wife so I still couldn’t see what she was doing on Charlotte’s hand. I did get a few images before he obscured the view too much. If you zoom in you can see the texture of her art work.

We had a little stroll to see the animals. I forgot to snap pictures of the rabbits and chickens, but they were all adorable. The sheep and cows were fun except the cows I wanted to take pictures of weren’t having it, and the sheep that were the funnest to see where the worst to photograph.

Then there were “The People”. It’s funny, in high school (back when dirt was new) I was kind of a Punker or “Hard Core New Wave” a friend once called me, “Michelle Stark” if you’re out there, Mendee says “hi”. Our rivals where either the “Hicks” (See the opening scene of SLC Punk for clarity), or the “Stoners”. Now, at the County Fair, it was all hicks, and unlike high school, I had no desire to ruin their day or slander their dinner plate sized belt buckles. I was just happy there are still kids out there that will get their hands dirty, shovel shit, and still dress up to come see other people’s work at raising animals.

Then there were “The People”. I was talking to Jamie earlier today about how I used to be a little more “social” and now I am REALLY uncomfortable being around more than three or four people at once. I “think” the real shift came after Okinawa. Being an instructor meant I had to be “available, accessible, and interact with people on mass”. Maybe that spend my bank of interactions. Not sure, anyhow, here are a few “rando” images from the Fair and the people. Not much more, have the day you deserve and go hug a cow, they taste delicious.
